Description
Whilst carrying out the second of two runs required to set a new record at a speed of over 300mph Campbell’s craft, Bluebird K7, left the surface and climbed into the air before crashing into the water. Campbell, one of the most prolific World speed record breakers that ever lived, was killed instantly on impact.
This coin commemorates the event and also celebrates Donald Campbell as an icon of the British derring-do spirit. Struck in the heart of the jewellry quarter in Birmingham from bronze before being silver plated, this coin features Bluebird at full speed across Coniston on the obverse. The reverse carries an embossed image of Donald Campbell using an innovative high quality photo-print process over a textured backdrop.
The coin measures 50mm in diameter weighs 55 grams and is supplied in a fitted presentation box with the bluebird logo on the lid.
The Club Coins UK design team have made every effort to encapsulate the image of Donald Campbell as a symbol of British spirit, the desire to push the boundaries of engineering and speed.
